Metro Bank has launched a new customer call centre above its Bristol store this week, another bank bolstering its call centre operations in the UK.

Delayed slightly due to Covid-19, the opening of the new centre, called AMAZE Direct, has created over 100 jobs.

A bout of new employees will be joining the call centre in July, while more people are to be recruited as the country continues to open up, the bank said.

Chief operating officer at Metro Bank, Aisling Kane, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our first contact centre in the South West.

“Our new colleagues are passionate and knowledgeable and I know they will make a real difference in our customers’ experience.”

It comes as Barclays shifted some of its call centre operations to the UK from India in April.

Barclays CEO Jes Staley said: “We were very mindful that a number of employees need to stay home now, they’ve got family that are sick that they need to take care of.

“We are making payments, but allowing them to help their families manage through this pandemic. It’s a very tough place right now.”
