Data analytics platform Tableau has announced a new data literacy commitment.

As a subsidiary of CRM leader Salesforce, Tableau’s offering focuses on analytics, leveraging AI, data management and collaboration to enable data-led decision making.

Citing an IDC survey, the company said that while 83% of CEOs expected their organisations to be more data-driven, only 33% of employees are “comfortable” using data analytics to support decision-making.

To correct that, the platform is now committing to enable 10 million data learners over the next five years.

“We’re in the golden era of data and analytics. Organisations are seeing an unprecedented explosion in the availability of and access to data. Businesses know they must tap into the power of data to stay agile and respond in this rapidly changing environment. For these businesses, success depends on training and enabling everyone in their organisation to use data to make better decisions,” said Mark Nelson, President & CEO, Tableau.

A familiarity with data has moved beyond data scientists and become a requirement for employees across enterprises – with Tableau saying it intended to help close the data literacy gap.

“Our Tableau Academic program, university partnerships and data literacy eLearning have already reached millions of people but it’s just the beginning. We need to do so much more to meet the world’s demand for data skills,” said Nelson. “With this pledge, we’re committing to support 10 million people in learning essential skills for starting or making a dramatic change in their careers.”

In September, the company announced new data and analytics platform capabilities including automatic data preparation and row generation and dynamic enterprise scaling.

“Tableau has long been a favourite to help individuals see and understand data,” said Francois Ajenstat, Chief Product Officer, Tableau, at the time. “We’re making it easier for IT leaders to make it a favourite across the entire enterprise and deliver an end-to-end solution to leverage the full power of data analytics.”
