IP EXPO Manchester is a part of the number one enterprise IT event series in Europe, IP EXPO. The series also includes a conference in Stockholm, and one in London. This year’s Techmedia-launched experience featured a particularly stirring keynote speech exclusive for 2018. The educational keynoted from Dr Hannah Fry, an expert mathematician, captivated an audience of IT innovators and analytics experts, with a discussion about the value of data and analytics.

With stunning data visualisations and a compelling approach to the possibilities of information, Fry helped attendees of the Manchester IP EXPO to see beyond the scandal of the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal, to rediscover the good parts of data collection. She addressed the best parts of data analytics and reminded attendees that an ethical approach and the right regulation can ensure that data is used properly, for the good of society and the benefit of many businesses.

Discussing the Possibilities of Data

After Fry’s keynote speech brought the house down for Manchester IP EXPO, the remainder of the event continued with additional conversations around the power of data. Topics included insights into protecting companies against data breaches from RepKnight’s Jeremy Hendy, as well as lessons in how to deploy AI from Pure Storage’s Joshua Robinson.

Of course, with any discussion of data this Spring, the conversation around privacy is close behind. GDPR was at the top of the agenda for a range of EXPO attendees, and many audiences gathered to hear from a panel where OneTrust’s Ian Evans, Kickbox’s Emily Freeman, and CloudDNA’s Al Taylor came together with ITCandor’s Martin Hingley to discuss how concerns like Brexit, GDPR, and diversity will change communication in the year ahead.

Other Highlights from Manchester IP EXPO

Additional highlights from IP EXPO in Manchester included various discussions around Cyber Security, Cloud and IoT possibilities, Data & Analytics and AI. Some particularly popular discussions were:

  • OpenSource as a DevOps enabler by Red Hat‘s James Allen
  • The Introduction to Hyperconverged data management platform “Cohesity” by Ezat Dayeh
  • How AI is powering the Endpoint security future with Sophos’ Greg Iddon
  • Exploring cloud, Kubernetes, and containers with Google‘s Mete Atamel

The director of the IP EXPO event series said that Fry’s keynote on data value was a fantastic way for the event to start, highlighting the importance of information in the modern world. Data was a core focus for the show for 2018, which enjoyed yet another successful. Manchester’s IP EXPO will be returning in 2019 between the 3rd and 4th of April.
