UiPath has introduced ‘Autopilot’, a virtual assistant that leverages generative AI and RPA to quickly automate work from natural language prompts.

The assistant – which sits across various apps in the UiPath platform – enables professional and citizen automation developers to create automations, code, and expressions using natural language.

Yet, perhaps the standout feature is Autopilot’s ability to turn paper documents into automation-powered apps in a single click.

Such a capability has significant potential in accelerating digital transformation initiatives.

Graham Sheldon, Chief Product Officer at UiPath, added: “By taking a user’s words, screenshots, or PDFs from paper documents as an input, Autopilot for Apps can create a robust automation workflow or interfaces for automation.

This enables ‘one-click digital transformation’ for organizations by taking automated action.

“[Also,] UiPath can operationalize the transformative force of AI through automation, seamlessly integrating intelligence into everyday operations, automating all knowledge work, up-leveling employees, and revolutionizing entire industries with AI at work.

“And importantly, the UiPath AI Trust Layer will allow customers to use these new AI capabilities with confidence, knowing their data is secure.”

Sheldon concluded: “Automation is the best path to deliver on whatever AI conceives.”

Additional Autopilot Features

Autopilot includes UiPath’s Clipboard AI model, which eases copying and pasting complex data between apps. That is one example of how teams can use the solution in tandem with the existing UiPath Assistant to reduce data-intensive work and mundane tasks for users.

Business users can also use API and UI automation embedded into the bot to update various line of business systems without opening up the applications themselves.

Then, there is the Autopilot for UIPath’s Test Suite, which users can leverage to accelerate the testing lifecycle, auto-generate test data, and surface actionable insights.

Meanwhile, Autopilot for Process Mining helps business analysts use natural language to filter, summarise, and create dashboards.

Autopilot for Communications Mining can also provide businesses with the necessary tools to discover automation opportunities via natural language prompts.

Industry expert Flo Ye, Director of Automation Solutions at dentsu, believes Autopilot will be a useful tool for its citizen developers: “Since ChatGPT launched late last year, there has been an influx of new app-specific copilots.

“These are immensely powerful for summarizing and creating content, and I expect we’ll continue to see every app create a copilot.

“But there is a huge unaddressed opportunity with these GenAI-powered copilots: they enable brainstorming, but not action.

That’s the beauty of UiPath Autopilot – it unites the patchwork of app-specific copilots and empowers you to take action based on your specific business rules and application stacks.

Ye continued: “In other words, Autopilot works alongside humans the way that we actually work, across applications and contexts.

“I’m particularly excited about how Autopilot for StudioX will continue to lower the barriers to automation entry for our cohort of citizen developers at dentsu.”

UiPath’s intelligent automation solutions, generative AI, and library of specialized AI models adhere to the principles of open, flexible, and responsible AI, according to UiPath.

Its open approach allows customers to incorporate the whole AI system to gain automations, as well as actionable, measurable results.

UiPath also announced its UiPath AI Trust Layer at FORWARD VI, which provides a management framework for data governance, user interactions with GenAI features, and LLMs.

A Gartner study recently found that UiPath is dominating the RPA space, with a ten times greater market share than Microsoft.

Moreover, UiPath was named the leader of the Gartner RPA Magic Quadrant 2023, as it was the year before.
