Adobe released a comprehensive new study, showing that employees and managers alike increasingly rely on a digitized workplace to stay productive and increase their companies’ competitiveness.

The study surveyed more than 9,700 employees, enterprise (ENT) managers and small business (SMB) leaders across eight markets.

It found that economic turmoil, climate change, and COVID-19 had left a deep and lasting impact on how people approach their work, with many saying that the tech industry’s trend toward digitalization still has a long way to go.

“Businesses of all sizes continue to grapple with considerable uncertainty, as well as frequent impacts on employee well-being and productivity,” said Todd Gerber, vice president of Document Cloud at Adobe.

Adapting to macroeconomic shifts necessitates that organizations prioritize strategic investments in digital technologies that will enable better workforce productivity, collaboration and innovation.

The study found that persistent uncertainty has led many companies to replace legacy processes with cloud technologies, in a bid to improve their competitiveness and resilience in an ever-changing world.

But most enterprise and SMB leaders said they needed more tools to not only remain competitive, but also support their employees during turbulent times.

It is perhaps a sign of the times that more than half of employees surveyed viewed work as a distraction from the vicissitudes of daily life. In response, companies are finding that digital tools can help deliver a better employee experience while managing personnel development costs.

In fact, over 70 percent of employees and managers say that digital solutions are facilitating and improving work relationships, including supporting managers in carrying out well-being check-ins. These pave the way for easier feedback between employees and leaders while fostering collaboration between teams.

And Adobe might know a thing or two about how happy employees contribute to a successful business, after announcing record revenue numbers and splashing $20 billion to acquire design startup Figma.
