SAP is working with Vonage to expand the reach of its AI agents and automate more of the enterprise.
The collaboration combines SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and Business AI with Vonage’s CPaaS portfolio.
In bringing these technologies together, the companies hope to create next-generation AI agents that cross systems and automate more multistep enterprise processes.
That’s according to Philipp Herzig, CTO & Chief AI Officer at SAP, whose team will pilot some use cases and share proof-of-concept (POC) demonstrations at MWC 2025 in Barcelona.
One example to look out for is how SAP may use Vonage APIs to monitor specific events – like network outages – and bridge these occurrences with impacted customers through proactive outreach and its CRM data.
However, the demos will go beyond customer support use cases alone and into the broader enterprise.
Additionally, Seckin Arikan, Head of API at Vonage, shared the broader vision of the partnership: “Together with SAP, we are turning innovation into actionable business value for enterprises.
This collaboration signifies a major step in advancing network and AI-driven applications.
The announcement follows a mutual SAP-Vonage announcement from last year, where the vendors pledged to help developers create ‘next-generation’ communication and network APIs for enterprises. This is the next step on that journey.
How CPaaS Supports Agentic AI
CPaaS platforms integrate systems and enable businesses to define workflows based on signals from these solutions. They also facilitate communication across channels.
As CPaaS enables those workflows, AI agents can run across them to automate more of the enterprise.
In this sense, the technology may become the infrastructure for AI agents.
Roberto Kutic, COO of Infobip, shared this vision on LinkedIn, noting that “CPaaS will no longer be just an enabler—it will be the backbone of AI-driven business interactions.”
This Vonage-SAP announcement highlights that this shift is already happening. As Kutic forecasts:
The next generation of CPaaS won’t just provide APIs for messaging or voice—it will be the core infrastructure that powers AI-first communication experiences.
Thanks to Ericsson’s expansive telecommunications ecosystem, Vonage – like Infobip – is well-placed to lead this transition.
As such, expect the vendor to share a similar vision at MWC and – via its partnership with SAP – present some cutting-edge new AI use cases.
After all, SAP has a broad spectrum of enterprise software. With Vonage connecting these solutions with external offerings, SAP customers may unlock new efficiencies and connect departments.
More Examples of Agentic AI from SAP
Just last week, CX Today reported that SAP has added preconfigured AI agents to its CX AI Toolkit.
With these AI agents, SAP hopes to drive practical improvements that tackle day-to-day pain points for CX teams – from making sense of scattered customer data to simplifying repetitive tasks.
The preconfigured agents help automate case classification, knowledge creation, and customer conversations.
Alongside these preconfigured examples, the enterprise tech giant also allows brands to create their own AI Agents through Joule.
Once its answer to Copilot, Joule now acts as a hub for AI agents, which work together to automate complete flows that span SAP systems and departments.
With Vonage CPaaS, SAP may soon expand the reach of these agents beyond its internal systems and into the broader enterprise ecosystem.
