The new year is finally here, and already it’s begun with a bang!
Five9, a leading provider of cloud contact centre software for the digital enterprise revealed that Jonathan Rosenberg will be leaving his role as Cisco to become the Five9 CTO and head of AI. Rosenberg is set to begin work in his new position immediately, where he will be working alongside David Pickering, the EVP of Engineering, in a quest to enhance and optimise Five9’s technology roadmap.
As well as handling the complex nuances of technology within Five9, Jonathan will also be dealing with the artificial intelligence team at the company, handling tasks to do with project management, development, and innovation.
Not the First Transfer from Cisco
There seems to be something of a trend emerging with C-level employees moving from Cisco’s team into the Five9 community. During May 2018, we reported on Rowan Trollope, the SVP and GM of Cisco’s application group’s decision to leave Cisco and join Five9 as it’s new CEO. Trollope’s departure came shortly after General Manager of Cloud Collaboration and SVP of Cisco, Jens Meggers also left to co-found a new networking startup.
Now, Jonathan Rosenberg seems to have followed in Rowan’s footsteps, leaving us to wonder whether any additional transitions are on the cards. In a press release about Rosenberg’s new position, CEO Rowan Trollope commented on the time he had spent working with Jonathan in Cisco, and the passion that Rosenberg had shown towards the cloud collaboration market.
Over the years, Rosenberg has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to leveraging and exploring transformative technology in the telecommunications industry. Jonathan even has a reputation for his part in authoring the SIP protocol, which currently acts as the foundation for the industry’s crucial IP-based communication tools.
An Impressive Addition to the Five9 Team
According to Rowan Trollope, as artificial intelligence continues to emerge as a crucial part of the contact centre and cloud computing worlds, Jonathan will play a vital part in helping Five9 to accelerate and improve their portfolio.
Before his time at Cisco, Rosenberg worked as the Chief Technology Strategist for Skype, where he was responsible for managing the technology strategy for one of the best-known online collaboration tools in the world. Jonathan has also obtained his master’s degree from MIT and has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Columbia. In a statement about his new position, Jonathan revealed that the new role is a “perfect match” for his current career plan.
Rosenberg is keen to begin working on the product and technology direction of a company in the SaaS environment, and unlock the potential of a new “AI-based future.” Jonathan also acknowledge Five9’s impressive culture, which he described as being defined by exceptional teamwork and leadership.
We’re excited to see what Rosenberg accomplishes in his new role, and what comes next for five9 in 2019.
