What has been your business/work highlight of 2024 so far?
Who is your business hero and why?
Simon Sinek because he found his superpower and unleashed it to make a difference for many. Much of what he says is spot on, and he is humble and intelligent enough to listen and adapt when needed. Simon is not afraid to challenge the status quo or to lead and be passionate about his work.
What’s the biggest business mistake you’ve made and what did you learn from it?
In the closing stages of a significant acquisition, I decided not to move to another country for a pivotal role and to take an alternative path as I believed it would achieve a better outcome for the company, the acquisition, politics and colleagues to succeed. This “mistake” directly affected my career and family, leading to my being made redundant in the “legacy” trajectory. As planned, the acquisition survived multiple redundancy rounds and remains core to the company’s market leadership position. I learned that while this may have been a personal & business “mistake”, I would rather stay true to my core values.
What’s the most inspirational book you’ve ever read and why?
Johnny Gingers Last Ride. A 12500-mile cycle from Swanbourne, UK, to Swanbourne, Australia. It’s not about the destination, it’s all about the journey, the mode of transport, the decisions along the way, and the grit and determination to reach the destination.
Some people choose to stay in their hometown for their life and journey around their hometown, while others prefer to do things differently, and both can inspire and lead fulfilling lives.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role in 2024?
Keeping up with the accelerating pace of change.
What technology will have the greatest impact on your business this year and why?
All technologies involved in the current revolution that is known to many as “the age of intelligence” as they are pivotal to the future.
