AI is changing the pace of enterprise cybersecurity, and customer experience leaders may feel the impact sooner than they expect.
In this CX Today interview, Nicole Willing speaks with Quincy Castro, Chief Information Security Officer at Chainguard, about how AI-driven vulnerability discovery is forcing organizations to rethink security, software development and customer trust.
Castro explains that enterprise teams have moved from a world where zero-day vulnerabilities were rare and expensive to one where powerful AI models can find weaknesses in code at huge scale. That shift creates a serious challenge for organizations still relying on traditional patching cycles and manual remediation processes.
Castro warns that if companies must emergency patch production environments more often, and those patches disrupt customers, security quickly becomes a brand and retention issue. A vulnerability management process that once happened behind the scenes can now affect customer uptime, service quality, and trust.
“Addressing security risk not as ‘it’s a tech issue that those eggheads over in the closet deal with,’ but rather like ‘this is a fundamental aspect of the brand promise and the value of the business and we need to address how we deal with it in a strategic way that is respectful of our competitive strategy and that is mindful of our customers’ needs’—that becomes so, so important for modern organizations.”
Castro also discusses Chainguard’s Athena coalition, an initiative designed to help coordinate fixes and mitigations across security vendors, infrastructure organizations, financial institutions, and cloud providers. The coalition has already processed more than 40,000 vulnerabilities, showing the scale of the challenge facing enterprise technology teams.
Castro highlights another emerging risk: AI does not only find critical flaws. It can also help attackers chain lower-severity vulnerabilities together to create more serious attack paths. That means organizations may need to rethink what they previously treated as acceptable risk.
Castro argues that stronger security outcomes depend on better engineering practices, tighter collaboration between security and product teams, and shared roadmaps focused on outcomes rather than checkbox compliance.
