Vodafone Business partners with Google Cloud to deliver AI-driven CX tools and cybersecurity solutions, helping European SMBs improve automation and resilience
Vodafone Business has unveiled a new suite of AI and cybersecurity solutions aimed at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), as part of its strategic partnership with Google Cloud.
The initiative, announced at Google’s Cloud Next ’26 event, introduces two offerings: a managed detection and response (MDR) cybersecurity service and the Vodafone Business AI Concierge, an agentic AI tool designed to automate customer interactions.
The move reflects growing demand for accessible enterprise-grade security and AI tools among SMBs, which often lack the in-house expertise and resources to deploy them effectively that large enterprises have.
AI Tools Demand Stronger Cybersecurity Protection
The launch centers on Vodafone’s cloud-native MDR solution, powered by Google Cloud’s Security Operations platform, which is designed to help SMBs identify, detect and respond to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
As AI tools become more embedded in everyday customer interactions, they also expand the potential attack surface for malicious attackers. Automated systems that handle customer data, payments and communications can be exploited if not properly secured, while GenAI introduces new risks such as impersonation, data leaks and manipulation of automated workflows.
The release of the security solution comes alongside the launch of AI Concierge, which is built on Google Cloud’s Gemini models and enables businesses to automate customer engagement tasks such as answering queries and booking appointments via voice and digital channels.
Vodafone indicates that the tool operates autonomously within business environments, handling routine interactions so employees can focus on higher-value activities.
As Fanan Henriques, Director of Vodafone Business Products and International, put it:
“By combining our network and support with Google Cloud’s AI expertise, we’re making advanced AI practical for everyday business use.”
The cybersecurity service will launch first in Germany, with broader European expansion planned later this year. The AI Concierge will initially be available in Germany and Greece.
The products build on a $1BN, 10-year partnership between Vodafone and Google Cloud that was announced in 2024, which focuses on scaling AI, data analytics and security capabilities across Vodafone’s markets.
The deal set the foundation for Vodafone’s scaled use of Google Cloud technologies. The telco is using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and Gemini models, including 1.5 Pro and Flash, to develop and deploy AI applications across its business, while expanding its portfolio of cloud-based services.
The companies are also working to transform Vodafone’s internal operations through the use of generative AI, automating processes such as fault detection and back-office workflows, alongside training programs designed to build AI capabilities across its workforce.
At the time, Vodafone said it would “draw on the strengths of its own in-house team of 900 cybersecurity experts, along with Google Cloud’s Security Operations platform,” to further secure its operations from external threats.
Rising Cyber Risk for European SMBs
The timing of the MDR launch aligns with escalating cybersecurity challenges facing small businesses across Europe. Research indicates that a significant proportion of SMBs remain vulnerable due to limited resources and awareness.
The ENISA Threat Landscape 2025 report from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) makes it clear that cybercriminals are industrializing their attacks, making even SMBs high-value targets. SMBs need to be alert to the risk of phishing, which is the primary method of infiltration, accounting for 60 percent of initial access cases, and vulnerability exploitation, which accounts for around 21.3 percent of intrusions.
The increasing use of AI by attackers is making threats more frequent and harder to detect, raising the stakes for small businesses that may not have the resources for dedicated security teams.
Vodafone’s announcement signals a continued convergence of customer experience and security infrastructure. AI-driven engagement tools like Concierge promise always-on responsiveness, while embedded cybersecurity is essential to protect customer data and brand trust.
The challenge will be balancing automation with transparency and control, particularly as SMBs adopt AI systems that interact directly with customers.
As SMBs accelerate digital transformation, integrated solutions that combine the automation of customer-facing tasks with built-in security controls are likely to gain traction across European markets.
